Extreme heat around Perth – bushfires destroy homes
Western Australia is currently experiencing unusually warm weather. Many houses were left without electricity and many houses were burnt to ashes. Also, the fire department is struggling due to strong winds.
At least ten homes have been completely destroyed by a raging bushfire in the northern suburbs of the Australian city of Perth. Hundreds of people have been left without power due to the fire’s damage to numerous power lines.
Station 9News reported this Thursday, citing emergency services. The fire had already consumed 1,500 hectares of land by afternoon.
Large parts of the state of Western Australia are currently experiencing extremely unusual heatwave temperatures, particularly around Perth. The city will record temperatures of up to 40 degrees on Thursday. According to the Met Office, it is currently 12 to 14 degrees above normal. It’s still spring in Australia.
Air tankers were dispatched from the East Coast
“It may take some time to bring the fire under control,” Emergency Services Minister Stephen Dawson said. In addition to the heat, strong winds made the task difficult. More than 150 firefighters are on duty. An air tanker from the state of New South Wales was dispatched to the West Coast to support the firefighting effort.
Authorities had already warned weeks earlier that the Australian spring and summer would be the most violent bushfire season since the devastating “black summer” of 2019-2020. During that time, weeks of wildfires destroyed twelve million hectares of land and countless animals died or were displaced.
