So far, 23-year-old Alicia Lehmann has somehow managed to juggle everything: professional football at Aston Villa and the national team, as well as a crazy career as a social media phenomenon with millions of followers. But there was an uproar on Monday: Lehmann voluntarily abandoned the EM Championship in England in July, declaring via SFV: “I don’t feel mentally prepared for the EM Championship.”
Lyman has not spoken further about her situation, with the English Public Relations Department freezing inquiries. EM cancellations are no problem on your channels, on the day of the cancellation, Lehmann posts holiday photos with his friend and Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz (24) and just writes: “Be happy” (Be happy).
Lyman pulls the emergency brake before the biggest event of her sporting career. Is everything her too much? Melanie Pallasopoulos (37) is a Swiss social media expert and points out the dimensions in which Lehmann is moving with 7.5 million followers on Instagram (only Federer has more in Swiss sports): “Your numbers are insane; more than 6 million new followers in just two years. And on TikTok too, it has reached over 5.7 million followers in less than two years.”
100,000 francs for each possible job
According to Asopoulos, founder of “SO/IN-Agency” at Zug ZG, which specializes in social media and influencer topics, and operator of the influencer academy in Zurich, Lehmann generates millions of euros in income from the internet every year.
“Almost every post of her is advertising now, and there are big brands like Adidas. You can easily order 100,000 francs for a post,” says the expert. In light of this, it is not surprising that the Bernese national’s focus has shifted from football to influencer activity.
But what appears spontaneously captured is often elaborately displayed. In light of daily photo and video posts on Instagram and Tiktok, Balasopulos analyzes that videos with shooting and editing in particular quickly cost two to three hours a day.
‘Stress can lead to mental problems’
In addition, there is an effort that should always appear perfectly on the Internet. “Of course, this is a tremendous pressure, especially on women,” the expert says. “Liman’s makeup, hair, etc. are always done perfectly. This shows that it is very important for her that her followers love her, that she receives praise and admiration.”
The influential expert is unable to judge from afar whether Lyman avoided impending exhaustion with Nati’s cancellation and pointing out mental problems. But she says, “Being on social media a lot, managing millions of followers and getting thousands of daily comments about your appearance can of course also lead to mental problems. Or boost it when you get it.”
This is why Bernese Pallasopoulos recommends taking a real break during summer holidays: “The social media break is good for all of us from time to time. It sure does for now too!”
