Italy won the Davis Cup for the second time since 1976, thanks to a brilliant Janic Sinner. In the final in Malaga, the Azzurri beat Australia 2-0.
World No. 4 Janic Schinner won all three singles against Lorenzo Sonego in the final in the south of Spain, and as usual for some years, the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final in the Netherlands and Serbia will be held in a week.
Sinner delivered his masterpiece in the semi-finals against world number one Novak Djokovic. The 22-year-old South Tyrolean trailed 4:5 and 0:40 in the third set, but saved all three match points and avenged his final loss at the ATP Finals a week ago in a thrilling match.
Things were a little easier for Chinner on Sunday against Australia, who had already lost to Canada in last year’s final. Thanks to Matteo Arnoldi’s (ATP 44) three-set victory over Alexey Papirin (ATP 40), he went into the match against Alex de Minaur with a 1-0 lead. With a 6:3, 6:0 win, she was unbeaten this week, unbeaten in world number twelfth.
