Strong support for Republican Nikki Haley
An influential organization supports a conservative politician in his election campaign. This should give more momentum to his presidential bid.
US Republican Nikki Haley has received a significant boost in her campaign for the presidential nomination. Americans for Prosperity, an influential organization founded by billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, on Tuesday expressed its support for the former US ambassador to the United Nations. This means the 51-year-old will receive significant institutional and financial support, giving her further leverage.
Haley announced her presidential bid in February. At first it was considered a no-brainer, with poll numbers in the low single-digit range. However, in recent weeks, she has made significant gains in the polls and caught Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who was seen as the most promising internal challenger to former President Donald Trump at the start of the race. Trump is far ahead of the Republican candidates.
Incumbent Joe Biden is running for re-election as a Democrat. To become a presidential candidate, candidates must first win their own party’s primary election, which begins in January. The actual presidential election will take place in early November 2024.
Voters want someone “new”.
A report by Americans for Prosperity, which has significant financial resources and a large network across the country, said Trump and Biden are only continuing a political downward spiral. “Furthermore, a clear majority of voters want freshmen.” Haley is well-positioned to open a new political chapter for the country by defeating Trump in the primaries and then Biden.
The staunchly conservative Koch brothers have amassed a fortune with an empire of oil pipelines, cattle ranches, paper and fertilizer producers, and technology companies. They used their money for decades to influence politics in America. They have paid huge sums of money to political movements, conservative Republican candidates and think tanks to strengthen the right-wing fringe in America. The Kochs are therefore considered pioneers of the right-wing Tea Party movement within the Republican Party. David Koch died in 2019 at the age of 79. Charles Koch is 88 years old.
