Tim Scott withdraws his presidential bid
The US senator, who has fallen behind in the polls, has announced he has withdrawn his bid for the Republican nomination.
Tim Scott has withdrawn his candidacy for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. The 58-year-old made the announcement on Fox News on Sunday evening (local time).
The senator from South Carolina — his party’s only black representative in the state chamber — announced his candidacy in May. However, his chances of success were underestimated from the start. According to polls, former US President Donald Trump is leading party supporters.
A wide field of Republican candidates
The presidential election is scheduled to be held on November 5, 2024. Unlike the Democratic Party, the Republican Party has a wide range of candidates. Anyone who actually wants to become the party’s official candidate must first win the party’s internal primaries. US President Joe Biden is running for re-election among Democrats. Since he is in office, he is unlikely to face tough competition within the party during the election campaign.
