Raymond Smith meets Karel Cetlacek in the first round of this year’s PTC Darts World Championship. The 43-year-old Australian will be hoping to repeat or even better his impressive performance from last year.
Smith then surprisingly reached the fourth round, where he lost 3–4 to Mervyn King. “I particularly remember the huge crowd at Alexandra Palace. The PDC Darts World Championship is a fantastic opportunity for players like me, who live in Australia and don’t have a tour card, to showcase themselves on the world’s biggest stage,” he said. Guru qualified for the Darts World Championship through the “Satellite Tour” in Australia. “Australia’s level is getting higher and higher, so every year it’s getting more and more difficult to qualify for the World Cup. Of course, I’m very happy that I still managed to do it again.”
Ambition
Smith goes to London with the necessary ambition. “My goal above all is not to blame myself, if I lose, that’s the way. But if you ask me who is the world champion, I still answer (“laughs”).
