The Powerball jackpot is $1.9 billion.
In the United States, the long-awaited lottery with a record jackpot of $ 1.9 billion (a good 1.9 billion euros) was postponed in a short time. As the California Lottery announced Monday evening, the Powerball lottery draw has been postponed because the participating lottery company needs more time for established safety precautions.
“Powerball has strict security requirements that all 48 lotteries must meet before the draw can be made,” the California Lottery wrote on Twitter. It remains unclear when the draw, which has already been planned for Monday, could take place.
The last winner in August
The jackpot was not broken again in the last drawing on Saturday and thus increased by another $300 million to $1.9 billion – the largest jackpot in the world in lottery history.
The jackpot has grown steadily since there was another winner in early August. Since then, in 40 draws, no player has been able to pick six correct numbers. Prior to Saturday’s draw, the jackpot had already risen to $1.6 billion – making it “the largest lottery prize ever offered in the world,” according to the operator.
The chance of winning the jackpot is slim
In January 2016, three Powerball players participated in the world’s largest jackpot in history, totaling $1.586 billion. The second highest jackpot – and the highest prize ever won by a single player – was $1.537 billion and was registered in October 2018 in the Mega Millions lottery.
Powerball lottery tickets cost $2 and are sold in 45 US states, the Washington DC metropolitan area, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. The chance of winning the jackpot is about 1 in 292 million.
