Verena Schott won the second medal for German athletes at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo. The Cottbus woman swam over 200 meters to claim bronze with a time of 2:59.09 on Thursday. It was won by Britain’s Maisie Summers Newton in a world record time of 2: 56.68 minutes, ahead of Ukraine’s Gilzuita Mereshko. The 32-year-old Schott will be the second Paralympic medalist in her third competition. In 2012 she won a silver medal in the same discipline.
Wheelchair basketball players lose the first game
German wheelchair basketball players narrowly missed Nico Dremoller to beat the United States at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo. National coach Nikolai Zeltinger’s team advanced against the winner from Rio in the third quarter with 40:30 and finally lost with 55:58. The women, who won the silver in Rio and before that the gold in London, scored an undisputed victory over Australia by 77:58.
Goalball players also have to admit defeat
Meanwhile, German goalkeepers suffered the first setback. In the second group match, the gold medal contender lost 5:11 in Tokyo to European Championship runner-up Ukraine 5:11. Initially, Germany defeated Turkey 6-4. Michael Dennis of Marburg was once again the best three-stroke shooter. Felix Rogge provided the other goals.
