The Minister of Construction of Bavaria Christian Bernreiter, together with the Minister of Health Klaus Hollitschek, today announced the winners of the joint photo competition “Open green spaces at home”. The two ministers congratulated the three main winners and thanked all the participants for the successful photos:

“Green environment at home” as a contribution to increasing individual well-being and creating biodiversity

The images presented impressively show how greening in or near buildings can have a positive impact on water storage capacity, climate and well-being. The images inspire everyone and we hope you will find many imitations. With the commitment of residents, employees, or the neighborhood, a lot can often be achieved with little effort,” says Bernretter.

Connecting living, building and health to a win-win situation for people and the environment

Health Minister Holczyk emphasized: “Through our competition, we wanted to show that health and construction are inextricably linked. Open spaces such as balconies and terraces, redesigned interior patios, green spaces near the house, open streams or green roofs and facades can make a significant contribution to people’s health. In particular, it could also be important for people who need care or dementia and to improve their quality of life.”

The first photograph of the award-winning Christina Muller from Munich expresses the theme of the competition, “Greener Freiraum am Haus”. The diverse arrangement of the plants transforms the sober architectural environment into a vibrant green oasis that contributes to the well-being and thus the health of the residents and the surrounding areas.

Maximilian von Rosick’s runner-up from Haar shows a red climbing rose covered in blossoms, which climbs up the steel balcony railing. The greenery around the house not only becomes a color screen of privacy, but blends beautifully with the surrounding treetops, making tactile nature for the residents of one of the upper floors.

In the photo of the third winning photo by Petra and Hartmut Grossmann of Meeder, a green facade has almost completely taken over a house. The building can be recognized in the abstract only by the shape of the roof. The green area surrounding the house provides a generous habitat for many species of insects and makes a valuable contribution to biodiversity.

The prizes were garden tools in the tool bag, the bug hotel and the bird’s nest box.
