Switzerland lost 0–3 in their third and final match against Australia in the final group stage of the Davis Cup.
Switzerland could not advertise itself at the end of the first Davis Cup final in Manchester. Captain Severin Luthi’s team lost 0-3 against Australia and did not win a set in singles or doubles.
Switzerland have lost 8 of their 9 games against France, Great Britain and now Australia. The exit from the group stage was already confirmed on Friday evening.
Kokkinakis and De Minaur are very strong individually
For starters, Dominic Striker (ATP 90) had nothing to do in his first clash with Thanasi Kokkinakis (ATP 74) and lost in two sets 3:6, 5:7. Bernese suffered a loss in her third appearance of the week, having retired from her singles match against Great Britain earlier in the day.

Marc-Andrea Hasler (ATP 101) also lost against Alex de Minaur (ATP 12). After 73 minutes and a total of 31 unforced errors, the Zurich player had to congratulate his opponent on victory.
Later the striker/hustler duo played against Matthew Epton/Max Purcell. The two Australian experts are favorites for their respective roles with scores of 6:2, 6:4.
Luthi also sees positives
“Of course we’re disappointed,” captain Luthi summed up the week in Manchester. “We’re always disappointed when we don’t win. But even if it wasn’t enough this week, we saw the young players moving in the right direction.
The Davis Cup team will be back in action next winter. There, four singles and one doubles tournament will be held to stay in the World Group.
With a 3-0 win, captain Leighton Hewitt’s Australians entered the top 8 of the tournament in Malaga in November.
