Media mogul Murdoch gets rid of Trump
After the US midterm elections, Murdoch’s media distanced himself and called the former president “the biggest loser” and “Trumpty Dumpty.” On the other hand, Ron DeSantis deserves praise.
Billionaire Rupert Murdoch’s influential media empire is turning away from former President Donald Trump after the US midterm elections. The Wall Street Journal described the right-wing populist conservative in its editorial on Thursday as “the biggest loser of the Republican Party.”
Trump, blamed by parts of the party for poor performance in the midterms, said he ended up with Murdoch’s Fox News radio station anyway. “For me, Fox News has always been on the verge of disappearing,” the former president wrote on his Truth Social platform.
Fox News – Trump’s longtime favorite – found hard words for the 76-year-old, while simultaneously praising Trump’s in-party rival Ron Dientis, who was re-elected by a wide margin in the Florida gubernatorial election. . “The biggest winner in the midterm elections was without a doubt Governor DeSantis, whose landslide victory in Florida was impressive,” Fox News columnist Liz Beck wrote. “The Biggest Loser? Donald Trump.”
The Murdoch media has a lot of influence in the United States and has long reported very positively about Trump. During his time in the White House, for example, Trump regularly gave long interviews to Fox News in which he was unafraid of critical questions. However, in the conservative camp, many are turning away from Trump after the midterms and relying on DeSantis.
Prominent Fox host Tucker Carlson blamed the Republican establishment for the election result, but also said Trump has always been a political “double-edged sword.”
The New York Post, which is also affiliated with Murdoch’s group, posted Trump on the wall in a front-page caricature calling him “Trumpty Dumpty” who had a “deep fall” – a reference to a popular children’s song in which a character named Humpty Dumpty falls from On the wall. The newspaper quoted an expert as saying that two words could explain why Republicans got a disappointing result in the midterm elections: “Donald Trump.”
Trump complained in his “all in” post, whether it was Fox, the Wall Street Journal or the New York Post «For Ron DeSanctimonious, your average Republican governor with good public relations.” DeSanctimonious is Trump’s nickname for DeSantis, the governor of Florida.
“Big Announcement on Tuesday”
Republicans’ hopes for a clear victory in Tuesday’s midterm elections were dashed. The Conservatives are likely to win a majority in the House of Representatives, but this is likely to be less than expected.
In the Senate, President Joe Biden’s Democrats can defend their meager majority. In both houses of Congress, the races were so close that major American broadcasters had yet to declare an overall winner.
The election result was remarkable because American voters often use midterm elections to teach a lesson to the president’s party. Poll numbers are also poor for Biden, in part due to the nation’s rising inflation. Many Republicans are now accusing Trump of damaging the party by interfering in the election campaign and selecting controversial candidates.
And this only weakens Trump at a time when he apparently wants to announce his candidacy again for the presidency. The right-wing populist has long flirted with running for the 2024 presidential election and promised a “very big announcement” for Tuesday.
