BANGKOK: On Friday (January 12, 2024), the Israeli Embassy launched a Tok Tok campaign in Bangkok to demand the immediate release of all hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

On the occasion of their 100th day of captivity, 100 tuk-tuks will roam the main streets of the city for three weeks. Each vehicle carries a sign bearing the hostages' faces, names and ages, as well as the message “Bring them home” in Thai and English.

Israeli Ambassador Orna Sagiv confirmed that the global campaign aims to remind the public of the prisoners in the Gaza Strip. A total of 135 people were taken hostage, including eight Thai citizens. Sagiv appealed to all governments, especially Thailand, to provide support for the demand for the return of the hostages.

The ambassador expressed his concern about the unprecedented situation and explained that Israel is trying to remind the world not to forget what happened in the past 100 days. The campaign aims to raise awareness and put pressure on governments to ensure the safe return of the hostages.

The Israeli embassy had already confirmed the demand for her release in November during the Loy Krathong festival in Benchasiri Park with 165 bread krathongs in the colors of the Israeli flag and 15 krathongs in the colors of the Thai flag. In December, Ambassador Sagiv and the Israeli Consul visited the families of the 11 Thai victims to express their condolences and ensure the support of the Israeli government.

So far, 121 hostages have been released as part of the conflict, including 23 Thai nationals. Sadly, 39 Thais lost their lives. The Israeli Embassy continues to actively call for the release of the remaining hostages.
