Nico Hischer misses the Best Defensive Forward award at the NHL Awards Gala in Nashville.

Nico Hischier is the No. 2 striker in the National Hockey League. As expected, the New Jersey Devils captain had to make way for Patrice Bergeron.

The Canadian, who serves the Boston Bruins, was honored with the Frank J. Selke Trophy for the sixth time at the NHL Awards in Nashville. The voting result was clear: Bergeron had 1,914 points, Heischer 804, and third qualifier Mitchell Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs had 408.

McDavid Most Valuable Player

The most important award, the Hart Memorial Trophy, was received by Canadian Conor McDavid. The 26-year-old Edmonton Oilers forward, the leading scorer in the regular season with 64 goals and 89 assists in 82 games, was named MVP for the third time after 2017 and 2021.

McDavid won the selection of the Czech David Pasternak from the Boston Bruins and American Matthew Tkachuk from the Florida Panthers, who reached the Stanley Cup Finals.

McDavid was also voted Most Valuable Player by professionals in the top league in the world with the Ted Lindsay Award, the Art Ross Trophy for most points in the regular season and, for the first time, the Rocket Richard Trophy for most goals.
