The US capital is at risk of losing two of its biggest sports teams

It seems that the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards are about to bid farewell to the American capital. According to ESPN, Ted Leonsis, owner of both clubs, plans to move to nearby Alexandria, North Carolina. Ideas will be presented on Wednesday.

According to the Washington Post, the US state of Virginia voted on Monday to approve the arena project. However, a vote in the General Assembly is still missing. Construction could begin in 2025, with the Capitals (ice hockey/ice hockey) and Wizards (basketball/NBA) moving in in 2028.

Both teams have played at Capital One Arena since 1997. Leonsis, managing director of Monumental Sports & Entertainment, wants $600 million in public money to renovate and modernize the arena.
