The Pioneers Vorarlberg reached the ICE Hockey League playoffs for the first time in the club's history. Vorarlberg clearly had the upper hand 5-2 in the second match of the qualifying round against HC Innsbruck on Tuesday and won the series, which lasted a maximum of three games, 2-0. Feldkirch won the first match on Sunday with a score of 6:3. The quarter-finalist has not yet been determined.

Olimpija Ljubljana won the playoff with a clear score of 6:2 against HC Pustertal. Three goals in the middle half brought the initial decision after a 1-1 draw after 20 minutes in front of more than 3,000 spectators. This means that the “Dragon” remains undefeated at home against the “Wolves” in the current season. The third match will be played on Thursday in Bruneck in South Tyrol. On this day, quarter-final ties will also be decided as part of the quarter-final selection. As the winner of the primary round, KAC can be the first team to choose the opponent.

The Pioneers were once again able to rely on Stephen Urie in front of 3,122 fans in Vorarlberghalle. The 27-year-old forward recorded a double (first, 28th) one day after it was announced that he had been elected Most Valuable Player (“MVP”) of the regular season. The American now has 33 goals this season. Two goals from Nathanael Halbert (5, 52) were not enough for the visitors. For the Tyroleans, the choice of opponent was not successful. In contrast to the previously strong record, there were two bitter defeats at the start of the knockout stage, which decided the end of the season.

Pre-playoff results (“Best of Three”, Game 2): Pioneers Vorarlberg – HC Innsbruck 5:2 (2:1.3:0.0:1). Final score in the series: 2:0, Olympia Ljubljana – Postertal Wolf 6:2 (1:1,3:0,2:1). Score in the series: 1:1. Decision match on Thursday in Bruneck
