Dolby Atmos is a surround sound system. If there are enough speakers, the instruments can be placed in the room by mixing Atmos, which ensures greater clarity. During the audio test of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class with an advanced 4D audio system, the differences between stereo and Atmos sound were clearly noticeable. Unfamiliar music tracks sound more dynamic in Atmos format. With well-known cuts, the sound elements are also audible less clearly or not at all in the stereo format. The surround sound experience is also great, with sounds moving from front to back or left to right. The larger the room, the more intense the experience of this 3D effect.

Atmos sound is now produced in recording studios around the world. About two-thirds of the currently available top 100 results are said to be available in this format. Even older music – pop, rock or classical – is later reformatted in Dolby format. By integrating spatial audio from Apple Music, the user can access curated Atmos playlists or privately search for Atmos music via the user interface of the MBUX infotainment system. In the case of desired titles, they are displayed whether they are available in stereo and/or Dolby Atmos. Universal Music has combined two Mercedes vehicles in the Atmos registration approval process.
