Curling: The mixed world title goes to the United States
With a clear final 8:2 victory over Japan, the United States captured its first World Mixed Curling Championship gold. Corey Theis and Corey Dropkin stole a total of 3 stone in their first two ends and were leading comfortably 6-1 after 5 ends. After the seventh end, Japan, who won a world championship medal in mixed for the first time, gave up. “I am speechless. We had an amazing week,” Theis said after the coup. The Norwegian duo took bronze in South Korea. The Swiss team, accompanied by Briar Schaller-Hurlimann and Yannick Schaller, narrowly missed out on qualifying for the finals despite winning 7:2 – the same score as eventual world champions USA.
