- Swiss Aerials finished fourth in the mixed Olympic event.
- The trio of Alexandra Parr, Permain Werner and Noe Roth reached the final of the top four, but took the last place there.
- The United States got gold ahead of the best candidates China and Canada.
The fifth Swiss medal in Beijing will have to wait. The Swiss Aerials Mixed came close to winning the medal but had to clinch fourth place at the event’s premiere at the Olympics.
Werner leads Switzerland to the final
Only 6 countries dealt with the mixed event in Zhangjiakou. After the first round, the top 4 teams, each consisting of a woman and two athletes, qualified for the Super Final. Permain Werner was primarily responsible for the lead of the Swiss team, who scored 128 points for Switzerland for his “double, full, double back”. Only one jump in the entire competition was rated better.
However, it was not enough that the Swiss later achieved a coup d’état in the Super Final. Werner couldn’t fully confirm his performance from round one and teammates Noe Roth and Alexandra Barr didn’t make the perfect jumps either. In the end, Switzerland was 13.97 points behind the bronze.
Boobies United States China
In the fight for the first Olympic gold medal in the mixed team, the United States surprisingly maintained the lead in a duel with China. The Canadians completed the podium in third place. The highly-rated Russian team (ROC) was surprisingly eliminated after the first round.
