The grand championship party is held on the terrace above Helvetiaplatz in Zurich. FCZ players shout their joy in the night sky, while thousands of Zurich fans chant loudly among them.
But then TV images from the balcony show how jubilant cheers suddenly became a hymn against arch-rival Basel, against whom they had won a sure 13th title the night before with a 2-0 win at Gogili.
A crowd of fans chanted “Sh…Basel” and “Who needs the inevitable, is Basler H…son”. What are the FCZ stars doing drunk basking in there? They make fun of FCB, too.
Captain Precher Ends The Ghost
Some of the newborn professional players raise their fists in the air and threaten insults at the top of their lungs. Others go to the balcony, at least to the beat of offensive songs. The ghost only ends when Captain Yannick Brecher asks his colleagues to turn their backs on the Helvetiaplatz photographer.
In Basel, these images were observed with irritation. Also because despite the hot weather surrounding the classic it was kept cool except for a very small skirmish and also because FCB showed greatness and sense of humor with David’s miniature sword in his congratulatory tweet.
More on celebrating the FCZ Championship
As President Ancilo Canepa was excited after the final whistle in Basel in Joggeli: “I am pleased with how the spectators behaved today. Of course, our fans were only happy, but he was also great from the Basel fans. We were able to leave the stadium without major problems. It was similar to the year 2007, when we also became champions away from Bellinzona and 2,000 fans celebrated with us on the pitch.”
But then Volkshaus distributed orally against the arch-rival. Following Blick’s request, FCZ declined to comment on the offensive anti-FCB chants. (red)
