Another location has been saved in the Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof department store group. A company spokesperson said on Saturday that the store in Essen will remain. The staff was informed in the morning just before the shop opened. WAZ had reported this before.
Galeria is located on several floors of the Limbecker Platz shopping center in Essen. The site was already supposed to close in January 2024. As a result, Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof no longer has any retail space at the company’s headquarters in the Ruhr.
Germany’s last big supermarket group had to seek rescue again in a protective shield procedure at the end of last year. The group has now completed insolvency proceedings. However, the restructuring process continues. The restructuring plan, which has become legally binding, provides for the closing of about a third of the last 129 branches. Recently, some branches have been delisted again after new agreements were concluded with the owners.
