In iPadOS 16.1, Stage Manager was also enabled on iPad Pros without M processors. Until recently, Apple claimed that A processors are not powerful enough and that the hardware offers too little RAM and only offered Stage Manager on M1 iPads. In the beta version, Stage Manager support for external displays will be temporarily disabled on all iPads, and will return later with an update on M-iPads.

What should be particularly exciting for app developers is Live Activity in iOS. These are the interactive notification features for the lock screen and, in the case of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, for the dynamic island. There, for example, intermediate results of football matches can be displayed in real time.

But this requires a modification of the applications. iOS 16.1 provides the foundation and Apple hopes that as many developers as possible will integrate Live Activities into their apps so that corresponding materials will be available when iOS 16.1 launches.

Apple also modified the battery indicator on the iPhone back in iOS 16.1 and now lets you visually display the declining battery charge as well as the percentage.

In addition, the basis for the Matter standard was laid across manufacturers in iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1. Apple wants to support this starting in the fall of 2022. Devices from Google, Samsung, and Amazon should also be able to connect to Apple smart homes.

As a registered developer, you can download and install iOS 16.1 for iPhone and iPadOS 16 for iPad beta 5 after installing a beta profile.
