How I laughed at that. FC Luzern CEO Marcel Kalin launched Vision 2021 in March 2017. FCL wants to celebrate football festivals and win titles by 2021. At that time it was an almost daring vision – the club was marked by intrigue and turmoil at the time.
Four years later, no one was laughing anymore. Kälin has always been history. The turmoil that continued at the club at the start of this year has been resolved with the shareholder dispute resolved. Now FCL is finally a serious club in the Premier League.
So it is no coincidence that the people of Lucerne are giving themselves a gift on the club’s 120th anniversary by winning the Cup. With Stefan Wolff you have a man at the top who gives the club an identity, has an understanding of football and thus supports sports director Remo Meyer.
Meyer did a lot right with building the team. In the summer he brings in important players like Sorgic, Frydek and Schaub – and manages to keep the best players like Müller, Knezevic and Schulz out. And make sure Celestini stays in the middle of Switzerland: the coach can stick to his risky but charismatic style of play.
He succeeded, the success is deserved, and the vision of 2021 has been fulfilled. If a new one is launched, it must once again include the mission of “winning the title”. But in Lucerne, people will dream of more than just a cup in the future.
If the FCL continues to operate in this focused manner, it will also be able to have more and more say in the tournament.
