Google allows you to monitor your sleep without any smart watch Or wear a health tracker. Along with the announcement of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro Google also revealed a number of software features that are exclusive to the duo. One interesting innovation is the cough and snore detection, which uses the new Tensor G2 processor with improved machine learning.

Detecting coughing and snoring on Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro phones
Cough and snoring detector has a similar concept to detect sleep in the next or new hole Hello Rise sleep tracker from amazon. However, the feature only relies on the microphones on the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro to record coughs and snores during sleep, rather than using the low-powered ambient motion sensor.
The results are incorporated into the Daily Digest of the Digital Wellbeing app. Users can read exact cough times and snore duration in hours and minutes on a separate timeline. Additionally, the feature must be activated first and requires users to set a bedtime schedule in the app.

It’s unclear if Google will improve the app with automatic sleep detection in the future. But the current feature is at least surprising, especially as the AI capabilities of Pixel devices are getting smarter. In addition to the standard wellness functions, the Digital Wellbeing app also offers parental controls.
As for privacy, Google says that the process takes place inside the device and the data is not sent to the cloud or external servers. However, Google has not confirmed if the feature is exclusive to the Pixel 7 series or to all Tensor G2 devices.
