Four A330-900 aircraft ordered: before bidding farewell to the A350, Azul purchases more Airbus A330 Neo aircraft

Four A330-900 aircraft ordered: before bidding farewell to the A350, Azul purchases more Airbus A330 Neo aircraft

Better than the A330 Neo More than the A350: Azul has now revealed itself behind a previously anonymous order for four Airbus A330-900s from this summer’s Paris Air Show.

The Paris Air Show was held in June 2023 and was a good month for Airbus. Among others, huge orders from Indigo for 500 aircraft and from Air India for 210 aircraft have come into the order book. The European plane manufacturer also reached an agreement with an airline to purchase four A330-900 aircraft, but did not name them.

This is changing now. Azul announces a firm order for four additional A330-900 aircraft from the purchase agreement signed in June 2023, Airbus announced on Friday (15 December). The Brazilian airline currently operates five A330-900 aircraft on lease. It has already ordered three copies from Airbus and is now adding four more.

The A350 is about to say goodbye

The airline prefers the A330 Neo over the A350. Azul also operates two A350-900 aircraft, but they appear to be too expensive to operate on shorter routes compared to the smaller A330 Neo. Meanwhile, it looked as if it would phase out the A350 in October 2023, but operations have been extended until January 22.

The Airbus A350 at Azul has already disappeared from overviews of the airline’s official fleet – such as the on-board magazine.
