Aston Villa celebrated its 1-0 victory over its guest, Manchester City, in the 15th round of the English Premier League on Wednesday, knocking the defending champion out of third place. The winner of the match for ‘The Villans’ was Leon Bailey who beat City goalkeeper Ederson with a deflected shot. While the Citizens are already six points behind leaders Arsenal, Liverpool closed the gap to two points with a 2-0 win over bottom side Sheffield.
At Villa Park in Birmingham, visiting goalkeeper Erling Haaland wasted several good chances in the first half. After the break, Aston Villa became stronger. John McGinn’s shot narrowly missed the target before Bailly beat Ederson with a shot that was blocked by Ruben Dias from less than 20 metres. Douglas Luiz briefly missed the target to make it 2-0. For the “Citizens”, this was the fourth consecutive match in the league without a win after three previous draws.
