A major concern for Barry Humphreys. The comedian underwent hip surgery last month. Now there are problems.
Australian comedian Barry Humphreys, aka Dame Edna Everage, has been hospitalized in Australia. The cause was complications from hip surgery after the 89-year-old fell last month, the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper reported, citing his family.
According to his wife Lisisbender, Humphries is doing well with the situation. “Barry would like to thank everyone for the support and well wishes he has received, but he wants them more,” the newspaper quoted the family as saying. “He would also like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at St Vincent’s Hospital.”
The character actor has been known for decades primarily for his cult fictional character, Dame Edna. Drag queen trademarks: purple hair and oversized, glittery glasses. Humphreys also attended Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding as her alter ego Dame Edna.
