The Serbian beat German Jannik Hanfmann 6:3, 6:3 in his debut at the ATP 250 tournament in Geneva.
Novak Djokovic gave himself a little gift on his 37th birthday by reaching the quarter-finals of the ATP 250 tournament in Geneva. He received a cake from the organizers after the match. The Serbian, who has been on a decline in form recently, celebrated his 1,100th success on the ATP Tour. He is the third player after Jimmy Connor (1,274 matches won) and Roger Federer (1,251) to reach this number.
Djokovic's efficiency – Hanfmann's missed opportunities
Djokovic was seriously challenged by Jannik Hanfmann (ATP 85) in the round of 16. The German had a total of 11 break points in the match, which in his view had to be stopped due to rain in the first set when the score was 3:5, but he could only use one point.
Thanks to that one service break, Hanfmann temporarily took a 3-0 lead into the second period. But Djokovic fought back and was very effective in exploiting his opportunities. Thanks to 3 breaks and 6 consecutive matches, he celebrated his passage to the next round after 90 minutes. There he will meet Talon Grikspor (27 ATP players) or Denis Shapovalov (123 ATP players).
Ruud continues after a false start
Casper Ruud also reached the quarter-finals. However, the Norwegian (ATP 7) had to stay away from Austrian Sebastian Offner (ATP 45). After losing the first set, Ruud eventually won 4:6, 6:2, 6:2. His next opponent is Argentine Sebastian Baez (ATP 20).
