In order to commemorate the Jews persecuted and murdered on Kristallnacht, the ARD is changing the program of special programmes.
BERLIN – On November 9, 2023, it will be exactly 85 years since the National Socialists began the persecution of Jews in Germany. During Kristallnacht, also known as Kristallnacht, Jews were systematically attacked, killed, arrested and taken to concentration camps, and Jewish shops and synagogues were destroyed, looted and set on fire. In order to commemorate the victims of these attacks, ARD is changing its program on November 9 and showing programs on this topic in the morning.
Commemoration of the ARD: On 9 November, a program about the Reichspogromnacht
On November 9, ARD begins its program with the broadcast of the Bundestag debate on the topic “Taking historical responsibility – protecting Jewish life in Germany.” The program begins at 9 a.m. and is scheduled to last 65 minutes.
“Mysterious Places – The Golden Dome Synagogue” begins at 10:05 a.m. This is a new synagogue in Berlin, which was long considered a hope for Jews in Germany, but was destroyed on Kristallnacht. The program gives an insight into the history and reconstruction of the building.
From 10:50 a.m., a memorial service for the victims will be broadcast, which will be held at the Beth Zion Synagogue in Berlin. Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (65 years old) and Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier (67 years old) will also be on site for the commemoration ceremony.
ARD viewers will have to abandon these programs on November 9th
Other forms must give way to important contributions to the memory of the victims of the night of the massacre. These programs include the “Tagesschau” program at 9 am and the entertainment program “Live after Nine”. The cruise documentary series “Crazy for the Sea,” which typically airs at 9:55 a.m., will also not air on Nov. 9. From 12 noon, the program continues as usual with “Tagessschau” and “Mittagsmagazin”.
Special broadcasts allow fans to get a feel for the time of change. Once winter sports begin broadcasting, ARD will likely change its programming further between November and March.
