After American actress Drew Barrymore (48 years old) resumed her talk show despite the ongoing strike of screenwriters and actors in Hollywood, the organizers of the National Book Awards ceremony deprived her of her job as a moderator. Organizers announced on Wednesday evening that Barrymore’s invitation to moderate the prestigious literary awards ceremony scheduled to be held in November will be withdrawn. “Our commitment is to ensure that the focus of the event remains on celebrating authors and books.” It was not initially announced who would take over.
Barrymore announced over the weekend that she wants to resume her talk show despite the strikes, on which she and other celebrities have been speaking since 2020. “I stand behind this decision,” the actress wrote on Instagram. She wants to commit to not discussing or promoting strike films or TV shows. Then there was a lot of public criticism and protests in front of the show’s studios in New York.
More than 11,000 screenwriters in the Writers Guild have been on strike since the beginning of May, and actors have also been on strike since July. Among other things, they demand better wages and rules for the use of artificial intelligence. There are no indications that the strike will end soon. (DAP/EPA)
