Meteor video posted
Twitter blocks astronomer because of “intimate recordings”
Astronomer Mary McIntyre has been denied access to her Twitter account for three months. The reason for this: She reportedly got pregnant with something intimate.

Twitter suspended an astronomer’s account for allegedly intimate content.
Astronomer Mary McIntyre, from Oxfordshire in southern England, posted a video of a phenomenon in the night sky in mid-August. On it you can see the trace of the ionization of the Perseid meteorite. World says “epic”.
But Twitter temporarily banned her profile for 12 hours because of this video. Reason for ban: The video’s content is too “intimate.” She will only be able to access her account again if, like them, she deletes the video BBC mentioned. McIntyre didn’t, because in her opinion she didn’t do anything bad and certainly didn’t upload anything intimate.
McIntyre is a member of the British Astronomical Society, the Popular Astronomy Society and the Society for the History of Astronomy. She explains that she explains astronomy to so many school kids and that’s why her profile is always checked anyway. She can’t understand the blocking: “It was just a meteor.”
No apologies from Twitter
Any complaints to the company did not help her. She never had Twitter again. Only when the BBC reported the case did the astronomer regain access to her Twitter account – after three months.
Twitter has not yet commented on this, not even the BBC and “guardians” I informed the company. However, it is not clear if there are currently any employees answering press questions since Elon Musk, 51, took over Twitter. But one thing is clear: they may have had problems before the acquisition. (lrc)
