After the big victory in Adelboden, Marco Odermatt (24) is about to have the premiere of the movie Lauberhorn.
Nidwalden will start for the first time on the legendary slope in Wengen. He got his first taste of the Tempo course on Tuesday in his first practice session.
Nearly five seconds for the best time
The World Cup overall leader masters the 4,480-meter road with the handbrake on. In the end, Udermatt lost nearly five seconds in the training record of Italian Christoph Ennrhofer.
“I had to think about what I should do with each goal,” Udermatt told Blake after his first trip to the Luberhorn River. However, he does not allow himself to be disturbed by the great helplessness. “I haven’t squatted yet. The road goes on. And when I think about the fact that I should go here four more times, I prefer to simply take it.”
In fact, Odermatt is expecting a huge program at Wengen this year. After the second practice session on Wednesday, Super-G (an alternative to Lake Louise and Bormio) awaits on Thursday. This is followed by two Friday and Saturday departures (each starting at 12:30 PM).
Road analysis with Carlo Janca
Odermatt doubts that in the end it will also suffice to obtain a higher rank in a higher discipline. “I don’t think I’ll ever get peace and quiet for that.”
After all: On tough trails like the Kernen-S, a good technician shows he has the tools needed for the slopes. He inspected and analyzed the section with Carlo Janca, the 2010 Lauberhorn Prize winner. “But I didn’t hit the class as kindly as he did,” Udermatt smiles.
First downhill training at Lauberhorn
The Swiss persuaded in the first training session of the two World Cups in Wengen. Four drivers make it to the top ten.
Italian Christof Innerhofer was one of the few who took it more strongly. So far this winter, the Italian has lost the best result on the slopes. In the Lauberhorn, where he triumphed since new years, he wants to deliver this later.
The start of the season for Carlo Janka
Stefan Rogenten was the best good Swiss team, losing only seven hundred to Einrhofer. Bündner won the European Cup on the slopes two years ago in Wengen. This winter he finished in the top ten twice in training sessions.
Behind Rogentin, Fuse won three times and Nils Hintermann (8th place) and Carlo Janca (9th), also made it to the top 10 in the first training session. This is particularly encouraging for Janka from Graubünden. He wants to start his season on the track where he won twelve years ago. He had already planned this already at Bormio, but he postponed the premiere again after ranks 61st and 62nd in the training sessions.
