The World Women's Curling Championships in Sydney, Canada, got off to the perfect start for Silvana Tirinzoni and company.
Skip Silvana Tirinzoni's Swiss curlers started the World Championships in Sydney, Canada, with two convincing victories. They defeated South Korea 7:4 and the United States 10:3.
Carole Howald, Selina Wychonki, Tirinzoni and Alina Patz dominated the match against the favored South Korean team from the start. Thanks, among other things, to the three stolen stones, they gained a decisive lead (6:2) until the seventh end.
7 stones written on two ends
Against the USA, CC Aarau trailed by 0:2 and 1:3, only to flex its muscles: after a four-man and three-man game, the score suddenly became 8:3 to the Swiss in the first half. After the sixth end, the Americans surrendered prematurely.
The four-time world champions from Switzerland also extended their impressive record streak in World Cup tournaments to 38 victories. The third round robin match against Tirinzoni & Co. will take place on Sunday evening Swiss time (live from 11:00pm on uncaptioned SRF broadcast). The opponent is Estonia.
