The square behind Lüttringhausen Town Hall will in the future be named Peter-Harnischmacher-Platz.

Remshaid. The newly designed square behind Lüttringhausen Town Hall will in the future be named after Peter Harnischmacher. The responsible district council approved a similar request from the traffic light factions (SPD, Greens and Free Democratic Party). The CDU had previously failed in its renaming proposal.

The Christian Democrats had proposed naming it “Platz der Vereinen”. Naming such a central place after just one person is not appropriate, said District Deputy Mayor Sebastian Hahn (CDU). This opinion was also found in discussions with residents.
The CDU wanted to name a track after Harnischmacher
In order to properly honor Peter Harnischmacher, the CDU proposed that the as-yet-unnamed connection path in the new development area Am Schützenplatz be named after him. By decision of the BV, the main access road in the new development area was given the name of former mayor Willy Hartkopf.

But the majority of the Social Democrats and the Green Party accepted the original traffic light proposal. It also depends on the approval of residents and the local association. “They are excited about this proposal,” said district mayor Jürgen Heuser (SPD).
Peter Harnischmacher, a full-time teacher at Lenneper Röntgen-Gymnasium, has volunteered in several ways in Lüttringhausen and Remscheid, including in the Heimatbund and as a member of the FDP. In 1988 he was awarded the Federal Legion of Merit ribbon. Harnischmacher died in 2020.
