AMD's upcoming Ryzen 9000 series (“Granite Ridge”) desktop processors built on the new Zen 5 microarchitecture are expected to be on schedule and will be launched by the end of the year at the latest. And now, for the first time, an image of one of the new CPUs has been leaked, which is a test processor, the so-called Engineering Sample (“ES”), with eight Zen 5 processor cores. The model, which is expected to be launched, could be designated as AMD Ryzen 7 9700X, via the so-called Orderable Part Number (“OPN”).

With eight Zen 5 processor cores and a total of 16 threads, it will likely be the successor to the current Ryzen 7 7700X model, i.e. a possible Ryzen 7 9700X.
This engineering sample has also appeared in several recent leaks, which clearly showed that AMD is currently sending several Ryzen 9000 series (“Granite Ridge”) test processors back and forth between its various locations. The shipping documents, or so-called accompanying documents, from the customs authority provided unambiguous proof: Zen 5 is coming soon.
While the Ryzen 9000 (“Granite Ridge”) is likely to be launched between July and September 2024, the Ryzen 9000X3D (“Granite Ridge-X”), which is particularly interesting for gamers, will be presented at CES 2025, which will take place from July 7. To September 2024 January 10, 2025 in Las Vegas. By then at the latest, the big CPU duel between the AMD Ryzen 9000 and the Intel Core Ultra 200 should take place.
