Tour Down Under: A stage winner over Baker

01/12/2024 | (rsn) – Ally Wollaston wins the first race of the Women's World Tour of the season in Australia. The 23-year-old New Zealander, who is contracted to Belgian racing group AG Insurance – Soutal, took the lead on the first stage of the Tour Down Under after 94 kilometers from Hahndorf to Campbelltown ahead of the Australians. By Georgia Baker (Liv AlUla Jayco) and Italian Sofia Perdisolo (UAE Team ADQ).
The better of the two German starters was Linda Reitmann (Wisma – Lease a Bike) in 24th place.Francisca Koch (DSM – Furmenich PostNL) was ten seconds behind in 68th.
“The girls did a great job today. I can't thank them enough for their work today. I'm so proud of her,” Wollaston commented on her sixth win among professionals.
The New Zealand champion leads the overall standings for the three-day Tour through the state of South Australia, which continues on a 104.2km stage from Glennec to Stirling and ends with a final climb of almost four kilometres. and about 3.5 percent steep.
