KeePassDX and Nextcloud – GNU / Linux.ch

That day, I was again annoyed by the password manager on my Android phone. application keepass2android It has the advantage that it can directly access the Keepass file stored in Nextcloud. So you don’t have to worry about syncing between your smartphone and Nextcloud yourself. Unfortunately, this application is not available in F-android Shop. This means that it is out of the question for a phone without Google.

That’s why I prefer the app KeepPassDX from F-Droid. We have an article about it. Unfortunately, it can’t access Nextcloud, it only handles local files. That would be fine, since you can use the Nextcloud client to keep a Keepass file in sync on your phone. To do this, click Download for the Keepass file in the Nextcloud client, the file ends up in a local directory, for example for example: “/android/media/com.nextcloud.client/nextcloud/[account]/keepass/tresor. kdbx”.

In KeePassDX you locate this file and open it, in a biometric way if you wish. And now the problem begins. Depending on the file manager on your Android phone, this messes up the filename the next time you open KeePassDX. It will look like this:

Most likely the problem is not with KeePassDX but with the file manager you are using, how do you use this Entry from the KeePass DX wiki can take. There it says:

KeePassDX uses your device’s external file managers and connection capabilities of this third-party application’s storage access framework to edit database files.

You should think of KeePassDX as a file editor, not a file manager. The links in the recent databases list are just quick references to the historical links that the external file application provides to open your database file.

If you also have this problem, you can try another file manager. I use a file manager Material filesin which the problem occurs. I haven’t tested if another file manager is the answer. Instead of opening KeePassDX, I open the Nextcloud client. From there I downloaded the Keepass file (so it’s there locally) and marked it as a favorite for easy access when opening the Nextcloud app. If you now click on the file, KeePassDX opens with that file. With this you can avoid the problem of broken file path without much effort.
