Gut-Behrami comes second in the giant slalom and is furious – Brignone wins for the second time

Giant slalom specialist Lara Gut-Bahrami finished third in the first round in Mont-Tremblant, Canada. In the second round she moved up, leaving behind Mikaela Shiffrin and Petra Vlhova to take second place. Like on Saturday, Federica Brignone won.

Lara Gut-Bahrami initially had a little trouble in her second giant slalom in Mont-Tremblant, Canada. In the second race, weather conditions were difficult. It was snowing and windy. The slope was barely visible on the cameras. But Gut-Behrami did not let this deter him and claimed a sensational second place.

However, she was upset by the weather: “It’s a joke, I don’t know why we have to do races like this,” she expressed her displeasure. You have to be crazy to start a race like this. For the men, two downhill races and the Super-G race at Beaver Creek were canceled.

Catch the men’s race on the Lauberhorn?

Like the last few times, fresh snow and gusting winds caused problems for FIS Chief Race Director Markus Waldner. He told SRF it was impossible to hold a race and added: “It’s 3-0 for nature.” It is still unclear when and where the Beaver Creek races will be rescheduled. Because the race calendar is already full. Waldner realizes this, too. However, he already has some ideas: for example, a third race in mid-February in Quettaville, Norway, or in Switzerland, he told ORF.

Waldner also said he was in contact with Switzerland so he could hold another race in Wengen in January. It is currently still being clarified whether the speed specialists will compete in another race in Switzerland in the new year. The only men’s slalom event of the season was held in Gurgul, Austria.

Brignone wins twice

Back to women. As happened on Saturday, Italian Federica Brignone crossed the finish line again on Sunday with a best time of 2:11.95 minutes. Also in third place, as happened on Saturday, was American Mikaela Shiffrin.

Now the giant slalom in Mont-Tremblant, Canada is history. On Saturday, Italian Federica Brignoni defeated Slovakian Petra Vlhova and American Mikaela Shiffrin. The best Swiss woman was Lara Gut-Bahrami. She just finished off the podium and finished fifth. However, more was expected of her, so she won the last two giant slaloms in Sölden and Killington.
