Curious: since the organizers of the European Cup rely mainly on large cities and proven partners, tower rivals Chemnitz and Rostock, which are better placed in the BBL, will have to be content with the FIBA ​​Cup – Rostock even only in the playoffs. ..

“I think our work over the past few years has been recognized and people are seeing that we’re making solid progress, step by step,” says Willoughby.

The European Cup will be played in two groups of ten again this year. However, the situation has been modified. New: Instead of the top eight, only the top six in each group qualify for the play-offs. In addition, the top two in each group receive a bye into the first playoff round and only enter into the quarterfinals.

And: The semi-finals and finals will now be played as a best-of-3-match series – no longer single knockout matches.
