Crankworx headed to Cairns, Australia last weekend for its fifth edition in 2022. The small town in Queensland, home to around 150,000 people, was able to look forward to a great show in which many local heroes eventually triumphed. As usual, the main event was the slopestyle competition, this time without the usual Swede on the podium.
In the slopestyle race in Queensland, American Nickoli Rogatkin took first place ahead of German slopestyler Erik Fetko and Swede Max Fredriksen. Fedko was still in the lead in the first run, but in the second run he couldn’t get close to Nikoli Rogatkin, who could almost be described as a veteran, and just missed the top step of the podium. Favorite Emil Johansson, on the other hand, has already finished in the first run. The Swede crashed badly in the last feature and was carried off the track by paramedics. He decided against a second run. Here’s a replay of the first 3 runs of the final for you in video form:
Caroline Buchanan wasn’t bad – the Australian local hero really cleaned up and managed to get a gold crankworks medal not only on the bump track, but also in the special double slalom. Mick Hanna, who comes straight from Cairns, secured men’s gold in the double slalom. Australia’s Harriet Burbidge-Smith and Canada’s Baz Van Steenbergen finished second, while Canada’s Waya Verbeek and Australia’s Jackson Frew finished third.
As already mentioned, Caroline Buchanan topped the pump track and Jayce Gunning topped the men’s track. Jordy Scott and Baz Van Steenbergen of the United States finished second, while New Zealand’s Jenna Hastings and France’s Thomas Lemoine finished second. completed the stage.
