Joy reigns: 57 years after the first Mayer Manx Dion Baggie First launched, there is an updated version for the first time. Ladies and gentlemen, we present Manx 2.0 EV!

But let’s start from the beginning: In 1964, Southern California engineer, artist, boat builder, and surfer Bruce Myers had the idea to build a lightweight off-road vehicle based on the Volkswagen Beetle. To do this, he shortened the wheelbase of the small German by a good 36 cm, installed an improved rear arm, and gave the car a simple – but strikingly designed – fiberglass body. Farewell – The Beach Buggy concept is born!

Thanks to its iconic shape, the Meyers Manx has also been used in many films, such as in The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), which includes a chase scene with a Meyers Manx hard-tuned by dated flat-six engines Chevrolet Corvair It was equipped.

The Meyers Manx has always been more than just a fun car. So he attracted a lot of attention when he won the Rallye in 1967 Mexican 1000Loans Beja 1000Beat by hitting motorcycles, cars and trucks.

The design and construction have proven to be so timeless that the car is shown more or less unchanged to this day… until now. Because it was now Manx 2.0 EV Gifts.

Oh yeah: EV. electrical. The engine, inverter, gearbox and brakes are placed in one unit. The Manx 2.0 comes in two battery options: a 20 kWh battery with a claimed range of 150 miles, or a 40 kWh battery with a 300 mile range… which admittedly is pretty *ambitious claims. However, you need to keep in mind that the thing weighs almost nothing – depending on the equipment between 680 and 750 kilograms, that is. Nearly 200 hp should give you a lot of driving pleasure.

Despite all the updates to the powertrain: fortunately, not much has changed in the design (unlike VW, for example, with ID concept buggy from 2019). This is still real Myers Manx, including the frog eyes.

Series production will be delivered in 2024, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the first prototype of the Myers dune buggy. But you can already sign up as a beta tester and apply for one of the 50 pre-production cars:

“The first 50 pre-production vehicles will be distributed to people whose experience and data collection will help make the production vehicle as good as possible. Beta customers are expected to drive their vehicle with a predetermined minimum mileage in all possible conditions over a 12-month period and to review their results regularly with Meyers-Manx Team. This rigorous testing methodology mirrors the approach of our founder, Bruce Myers, who set the Baja speed record with his prototype of the old red buggy.”
