A new high was reached in 2021 with 50 million eBill transactions, SIX, which operates the digital billing infrastructure, announced Tuesday. This was more than a quarter of the previous year.
Invoices directly in electronic banking
The paperless invoice, which no longer comes by post or email but appears directly in electronic banking, was introduced in its current form in 2018. More than 4,000 companies send their invoices this way. According to SIX, this includes all major telecom providers, health insurance companies, energy providers, carriers, public administrations, and credit card providers.
The service is offered by about 100 Swiss banks. The bill is paid in online banking with one click or it can also be automatic.
New jobs from 2022
This year there are other innovations pending. This should enable businesses to not only send invoices via eBill, but also receive and process them directly using their own software. From fall 2022, foundations and donation organizations will also be able to use the digital invoice to collect their donations — in a way that is transparent and secure for donors, they say.
