After Seyadi’s two-set win over Annette Kontaveit, an angry Jill Tishman made it to the third round of Toronto.
Jill Tishman (WTA 21) surprisingly beat the world number two, Anett Kontaveit, in the second round of the WTA 1000 Championships in Toronto. Defeated Estonian Zeelander 6-4, 6-4.
Just 11 days ago, San Jose’s Tishman failed to qualify for Elizabeth Mandlik (WTA 240). In Ontario, on the other hand, she confidently celebrated her second win of the year against the top 10 after beating Karolina Pliskova in Rome.
Victorious despite a false start in the second set
Tishman needed about an hour and a half to flip over. The left-handed, who had been inferior to the Estonian in the previous three duels, started suboptimal in the second set. After losing 2-0 and losing the serve in which she led 40-0, she responded brilliantly and won four games in a row.
She ended the match shortly after with a serve to zero. In the round of 16, Tishman meets former world number one Simona Halep (WTA 15) for the first time.
