World’s 50 Best Awards: Tim Rao 31st – Gourmet World

October 5, 2021

31st place: Berlin’s Tim Raue Restaurant is the best German restaurant once again on the “World’s 50 Best Restaurants” list.

After a year-long break in 2020, “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants”, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, was presented on Monday in Antwerp.

Also present: Berlin restaurants Mary Ann Wilde and Tim Rau, whose Tim Rau restaurant ranks 31st this year. This means that the restaurant, which has two Michelin stars and 19.5 Gault and Millau points, is once again the best German restaurant according to the “Top 50 Lists” and one of only two German restaurants to be honored with top 50 places.

Neighboring Noblehart and Schmotzig were voted in 50th and 45th places for the first time this year. Particularly nice: With the 31st place, Tim Raue’s restaurant has improved by nine places!

“We are very proud that our hosting idea is globally recognized with this award. We sincerely thank the people who bring this idea to life with us every day,” says Mary Ann Wild. Tim Rao adds: “The award is great for us! Being on the list of the 50 best restaurants in the world is something that entices guests from all over the world and inspires young people to work with us. That is the essence of gastronomy and the best global guide to exceptional restaurants. And we are still one of them. Also that our neighbors at Nobelhart & Dirty made it into the top 50, because that offers Berliners and visitors to Berlin two completely different dining concepts just 200 meters from each other, and that shows one thing: Berlin is The A culinary hot spot in Germany.

The “50 Best Restaurants In The World” list is curated and compiled by William Reed Business Media. Created from the votes of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, which is made up of over 1,000 international restaurant professionals and has a 50/50 gender ratio.

Restaurants are rated in 26 regions around the world. Each region has its own voting body with 40 members, including the president. At least 25% of members from each region change each year. The judging panel in each region is made up of well-traveled food writers, critics, chefs, restaurateurs, and gourmets. Each Academy member votes for 10 restaurants; Of these, at least 4 restaurants must be outside their home region. Some regions include more than one country. The 2021 list will be compiled from a combination of votes cast in January 2020 (which was never published) and a “Voting Update” from March 2021 due to travel restrictions in the past few months.

Therefore, the 2021 list will be compiled from a combination of broader experiences in the pre-pandemic period and contemporary local updates where possible. There are no predetermined criteria, but strict voting rules. Deloitte, a management consulting firm, operates the “50 Best Restaurants in the World”. This ensures the integrity and authenticity of the voting process and the resulting list of “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2019”.
