A foot injury puts Raonic off the field

Canadian Milos Raonic (ATP 70) had to withdraw his participation in the first Grand Slam of the year (from January 17 in Melbourne). The former world number three still suffers from heel problems. Raonic has had an injury-packed season behind him: In March 2021, he injured his thigh, and in July he was back on the ATP tour for a match before suffering the next injury to his foot. The 30-year-old saw his highs in 2016 when he advanced to the semi-finals at the Australian Open and played for the title at Wimbledon (3 sets in the final against Andy Murray).

Raonic continues the long list of major ‘under’ absentees: Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka, among others, Serena Williams, Bianca Andreescu, Jennifer Brady, Karolina Pliskova and Karolina Muchova in Melbourne at the start of the year, is absent from the women’s field.
