Czech Republic – Sweden 4: 2: For a long time it looked as if the Swedes could keep the better finish to themselves after their 7-0 win over Switzerland over the Czech Republic. Tre Kronor led 2-0 until the 42nd minute, before the Czechs were able to turn things around within 7 minutes thanks to goals by Jacob Vrana, top scorer Zug Jan Kovar and Lukas Kluck. Jacob Flick made the decision pretty blankly and half a minute before the end.
While the Czech Republic is back in the game for the quarter-finals, Sweden is threatened with an early exit. With only 3 points from 4 matches, the Scandinavians are at the bottom of the standings.
Group B:
United States – Latvia 4: 2: After losing to Finland (1:2) at the start, the United States found its feet in the World Cup in Riga. In the duel with the host country Latvia, the USA team won 4-2. After Latvia made up for the deficit twice in the third start, goals from Trevor Moore and Mathieu Bernier within 107 seconds in the middle third remained unanswered. With that win, the Americans are now on their way to the quarter-finals. On the other hand, Latvia has to improve if it wants to qualify for the finals.
Finland 3-0 Italy: Finland maintained its leadership position in Group B by defeating bottom club Italy. The Northerners made a great start and after 9 minutes took a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Toni Sund and Arto Rutsalainen. Sund again increased mid-match to make the score 3-0.
