Football Association Australia has rejected plans to move the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand from Europe to the Oceanic summer by several months.

This was reported by French daily sports newspaper L’Equipe on Thursday (07/28/2022).

“No change of plans”

“Plans to start in July continue unchanged,” said “Soccer Australia” when asked by French news agency AFP. A spokesman for world body FIFA confirmed to the Sydney Morning Herald that no new date had been planned. The World Cup will be held from July 20 to August 20.

L’Equipe reported that FIFA feared TV viewers would lose interest in TV broadcasts due to the holiday season in Europe. The preliminary group draw will take place on October 22 in Auckland. 32 teams participate in the World Cup, five in Australian cities and four in New Zealand.
