Windows 11: June optional update causes problems with the taskbar

Microsoft has made the June Update KB5039302 for Windows 11 available for optional download again after the company had to pull the update due to unwanted frequent reboots for users using virtualization software. However, the Windows taskbar issue now occurs under certain circumstances.

Taskbar issues in Windows N version and disabling media functions

“You may experience taskbar issues after installing this update. This issue is likely to occur only if you are using a Windows N edition device or if you are using Media Features via Control Panel->Programs->Programs and Features->Run Windows or It stops working,” Microsoft wrote in one Support Document To update Windows 11 KB5039302.

After installing the June update, affected users can no longer interact with the taskbar, which either no longer responds to input or simply no longer loads due to an error. According to Microsoft, it is still possible to use other Windows programs such as Settings, Desktop, or File Explorer. Microsoft is already working on a fix for the bug, but no date has been set yet.

If you are affected by the taskbar issue due to broken Media Functions after installing update KB5039302 under Windows 11 version 23H2 or Windows 11 version 22H2, you can use Media Functions again as a workaround via Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Activate Windows Functions under Media Functions.
