The United States has settled a dispute with the United Kingdom over steel and aluminum tariffs
The United States and Great Britain have settled a dispute over special tariffs on iron and aluminum imports introduced under former President Donald Trump.
According to a report on the deal delivered in Washington on Tuesday, Great Britain will re-import a certain amount of steel and aluminum duty-free to the United States from June. The amount of tax-free trade should be approximately the same as in 2018 and 2019 with no penalties.
So Great Britain will waive the extra import duty on US goods worth about US $ 500 million. The agreement follows the model of the agreement between US President Joe Biden’s government and the EU, announced late last year. A similar agreement with Japan was announced in February.
Trump justified the 25 percent tax, which also affected US allies such as Japan and Europeans with “national security interests.” When he took office a year ago, Democrat Biden promised to mend damaged relations with US allies.
