Writer Christian Kracht has been nominated for the 2021 Swiss Book Prize by Eurotrash. Now he’s pulled his novel – but could win it the German Book Prize.
Kracht has informed sponsors of the Swiss Book Prize in a letter of his waiver, the Association of Swiss Booksellers and Publishers (SBVV) announced on Tuesday.
As a justification, the author stated that he “did not want to provide further material for discussion on the promotion of my work, as it is sometimes carried out in some Swiss media”.
In addition, Kracht received the Swiss Book Award Already received in 2016 And now you want to give the other four authors a better chance, the SBVV statement continues.
Association regrets waiver
The Assembly regrets Kracht’s decision, “especially as it comes at such a late date”. The list of the five authors nominated for the award was announced on 15 September.
The prize will be awarded on November 7th as part of the BuchBasel International Festival of Literature – to one or one of the four remaining nominees.
