German volleyball players advanced early Friday evening (9/22/) to the second group stage of the World Cup in the Netherlands and Poland, despite the defeat against the American Olympic champion.
National coach Vital Heinen’s team lost at minute 0:3 (17:25, 13:25, 24:26) to the favorites in لودód, Poland for the second time in a row, but fourth in a group. Six go to the DVV before the final with Canada on Saturday (4:00 p.m.)
In front of the world number one, USA, who only lost one set in the World Cup, Germany had to concede defeat, just as they did the day before when they lost 3-0 to defending champions Serbia.
Put the ball in the third round
DVV’s top scorer, who missed a set point in the third round, was Kimberly Drunyuk with eight points. The DVV selection won its first two matches against Bulgaria (3:1) and Kazakhstan (3:0).
With Bulgaria and Kazakhstan also losing their fourth game on Friday and can no longer get past the German squad, Heynen’s side can already plan for the second group stage. This group will take place in two groups of eight from October 4-9, with the top four teams in each group going to the quarter-finals. Germany has never won a medal in the World Cup.
